Problem of server crashes on my forum

I am one of the admins on a forum that has a big database (1.6GB as at the last backup). The problem we are always facing is a case of the server crashing incessantly. We set up a server monitor and the feedback is that the Mysql server is almost always down, like 2% uptime. and I feel its because the database is bugging down the server. Now, I am suggesting we move hosts.
I would appreciate if I can get like a list of vbulletin-specific hosts, who can handle a big database with very minimal downtime. I am currently wit valueweb.

With such a database you should first try to reduce the size of the database. Do you store attachments in database?

Secondly - none of the shared hosts will give you any quality with 1,5GB database for forum. You should consider going for a dedicated server.

Last but not least - do you optimize/repair your database sometimes?

We stopped storing attachments long ago, and yes we ptimize/repair regularly:(

Well. Prepare a couple of bucks for a brand new pretty dedicated machine. You can find them from 60-70 USD / month. This should be paid by your Google Adsense published on the forums :)

And I forgot to add, we have a dedicated server

Have you tried posting in the Server Configuration forum over at vb.com and getting George's help to optimize your mysql settings? And are you on one dedicated server or two? (Just wondering cuz my site is on two and our database is about 800MB, but then we run a tracker too which increases the traffic tremendously.)
