Digest Notification Emails

Does anyone know which file is used to handle the sending of the email notifications? I'd like to find the actual code that handles this function.

It's a Scheduled Task that runs the file /includes/cron/digestdaily.php or digestweekly.php and they run /includes/functions_digest.php - the function exec_digest(2); or exec_digest(3); depending on daily or weekly.
