How to do strip_tags on $navbits[breadcrumb]

I want to be able to do a strip_tags on $navbits[breadcrumb] i.e strip_tags($navbits[breadcrumb]) and use it in the <title></title> tag. I guess this must be done in some plugin and print the variable in the title tag. I tried to do it but didn't work..soemthing wrong with the way or the hook location..i'm not sure. I want to be able to do this for SEO purposes. How do i do it? Can someone help !!
