API to retrieve data from VB?

I am coming from SMF where it has an easy to use SSI API to retrieve data from the forum itself that can be used outside the forum. Does VB have this kind of API? The ones I've seen on these boards required at least some kind of modification to VB when all I want is to get some data out of VB. The kind of data I would want to retrieve would list of posts, content of threads, poster names, total posts, etc.
