Automatically truncate a link's appearance?

Hi,

I would like to have my forum automatically truncate the appearance of posted links.

Example, the link below goes to http://example.com however it has been shortened to http://ex...le.com

http://ex...le.com

Is this possible at all?

i think it is set to do that by default.
