A few misc questions

Apache vs. Lighty? Drupal vs. ContentTeller? RHEL vs. Windows Server?

So, pick one out of each two. Which would you go with?

Thanks!

Regards Jason :)

Lighty Drupal and RHEL

Assuming this is for vBulletin perhaps?. Each one serves its purpose and is better at certain things then the other though.

Yes, all for vBulletin. I haven't managed to check out Lighty yet, but what advantages does it have over Apache?

How customizable is Drupal? Have you tried ContentTeller -- I've been hearing promising things about it.

Regards Jason :)

I only use apache, but all i hear is people say how much faster light is and all the crap.

Drupal is lovely, easily customizable, and never heard of ContentTeller till this post :D

apache durpal and red hat.

apache because i've spent days tweaking it. never tried light. durpal is highly customizable and easy on system resources. and red hat... well, simply because it's linux... and linux beats windows any day in my opinion.

RH Sooks, its rpm based, so unless you feel like manually compiling programs all the time because you want to use the latest & greatest, RH is always numerous versions back from current releases as RH patches all to often, a far better choice would be Gentoo / BSD / Ubuntu.

As far as Light v's Apache, lighty has far less htaccess ability than apache, so if your dependent on htaccess rules, lighty is not the way to go, speed wise lighty can be faster, but not always the case when it comes to LARGE forum, lighty wasnt designed for dynamic based sites, but it can run a forum better than apache in many cases, if your site is high on images & htaccess, lighty isnt going to make a world of difference unless you run multiple lighty occurrences, separate image servers etc.

Thanks for the input guys.

I've seen this cache, APC: http://pecl.php.net/package/APC

Anyone tried it? I think it's best using it now, since it will be included in PHP6.

ContentTeller is the successor of Storyteller CMS. The website can be found here - http://esselbach.com/

I've never tried Drupal -- but I do need a CMS system for my homepage to manage news ect... There again, is Drupal paid or free software?.... Maybe I'll custom code one.

Regards Jason :)

xcache out performs apc & apc has had numerous issues in its last 5 or 6 releases for bugs.

Jase2 03-29-2008 12:39 PM

I've heard that Xcache is rather buggy, too.

Regards Jason :)
