Help needed if possible?

Three questions (Instead of making 3 different threads, I thought it would be best to post all in 1 so that other users can still ask for help without my "3" threads overflooding the forum :)

1) When searching my forum in google, why is it that it does show first + when searching it in google such as "half of the forum name" it does not show?

2) When registering to my forum "the activation email" is in the "junk folder" and says it is not safe to open?

3) If installing things that are made for 3.7... on a 3.6.8 forum, can there be any side effects or does vbulletin not allow you to install it for certain reasons?

4)When downloading things from this forum sometimes it says your NOT ALLOWED to repackage things, what exactly does this mean, I think it means your not allowed to make a set of icons then add the one's you downloaded and say anyone can download them that are allowed on this forum?
CORRECT me if I am wrong please or tell me if I am correct.

Thanks if you try to help and if you feel that a question is silly, please don't post and say it is as I ain't here to argue :)

I understand my questions now, thanks for your help. 4) Thanks to lynne, I understand

1) This is a big problem when your new. You have to build up your content for google to find you. Upload sitemaps into Googles Webmaster's Tools. Word of mouth is the best way to start a forum. Word of mouth is getting me going right now!

2)This is the Email Providers issues. This will happen alot, and from what i've learned there's not much you can do about it. :(

3) Usually the Mod/Hack designer will let you know in the thread what it's compatible with. I have no idea, but I would imagine somthing designed for 3.68 and loading it into 3.7, it probably wouldn't work right.

4) Downloading from your FTP Server?

oo thanks,

Reply to question 1) I thought it was to do with "meta" in vbulletin options?
Reply to question 4) I mean when downloading certain things from this forum, e.g. status icons, sometimes it says it is not allowed to be repackaged etc... does that mean it can't be redistributed by mixing other status icons and saying it is your own? Correct me please if I am wrong.

1) Im pretty new the "Forums" world. But, some say search engines don't looks at these to often...

4) I would say its probably agaist site rules to download and redistribute content on this site. Probably why it doesn't work.

4. I believe the author does not want you to take their icons, add some of your own, and then reupload the whole package yourself. Like, if they made buttons, and then you made background and category strips, etc. for a whole website style, they would not like you to include their stuff in your download. However, I believe it would be perfectly acceptable for you to say "I like to use these buttons I got {{here}}" and add a link to their download.

First of all I would like to say well done to you for the nice green name (advisor) I honestly can see why you have it as it shows above the way you answer the questions to full extent with great replies not just 1 word answers etc... Thanks to DieselTruck for helping aswell as what you said answered my question partly too :)

GREAT advice, thanks :)

Also can you help with the activation email question as it says it is unsafe to open? Shall I contact my host do you think?

Thanks for the kind words.

As for the activation emails, I always seem to get them sent to my Spam folder if I register with my yahoo email address. There is something with the filtering that does that. There was actually another thread here recently about this and the site admin was gonna write to yahoo about that. I'm not sure if he ever got an answer. I seem to recall once reading someone's analysis of why the emails end up in the Spam folder - it had to do with what words were used and how often and such. You may want to try to rewrite it - make it longer and more specific to your forum. That might help it to be accepted as 'real' email. I am not sure about why it would say it is 'unsafe'. Was this a pop-up warning or just a generic warning given to all emails that end up in the Spam folder?

Activation emails are sent into spam folders on many providers. If you can mark something as "Not Spam" and have the SPAM filter learn to your ways it may improve your chances of having the email sent to your inbox instead of SPAM folder.

As for icons, if they are free to use (like the Tango Project) you can download them. But custom icons from sites (let's use vB.org as an example) that are not available for download as a package, may be copyrighted and legal action could be brought against you. Always contact the original creator of the images for permission to use them, if at all possible. :)

I will ask my host about that as they say they are unsafe to open, really don't understand.

I was talking about icons from this forum which they say "download here" which allow you to download etc... and was wondering what exactly repackaging means but now I know :), feel free to answer any other questions if you want.

Thanks
