Moving An Installed Forum

Hi,

I was just wondering. Im going to be working on a whole new forum but I dont want my members finding out about it.

So if I put it under a folder like http://www.hazardforum.co.uk/secret

When its all styled up and mods are installed on it etc, is it easy enough to move it to a /forum directory or will there be lots of coding errors?

Thanks ,

Rowan

Folder placement doesnt effect coding, unless your hard coding paths into the templates/php files.

Once you move the forum, remember to correct your url path in the admincp --> vbulletin options --> url settings

so when were coding aslong as i only put /this/that etc.. instead of http://www.hazardforum.... bla bla bla

Installing all the new mods etc and styles then moving it and using the AdminCP to fix it should be fine to do?

As for the coding yes, no hard coded paths with full urls, that will create issues for you when you move, you will have to go back and change them.

As for styles, a lot of custom styles require the full url in the style options for the iamges, those typically need to be corrected or you can symlink the dirs thru ssh.

I'm having a small problem with moving my forum as well.

I moved my forum from a subdirectory (called forum) to my root directory, changed all the url's I could find (even the one hard coded in the config file) and everything seems to work ok EXCEPT the smilies and the post icons. They don't show, text shows instead, and when I right click on the text the path it shows is the old path (/forum/images...). Is there a url setting I'm missing besides the one in the VB options menu? I went through all my style settings and options and there are no complete urls, just (/images/pic.gif...), so I have nothing to change there I don't think. I've also cleared my cookies and reset my cache.

Any ideas?

Have you checked your config.php for any settings inside of $config['Misc']['forumpath']? This may be effecting them.

1. admincp --> post icons --> edit post icons --> click generic icons and edit the images wit hte right path and do NOT include your domain, the image paths should only have as an example:

/images/icon1.gif

2. admincp --> vbulletin options --> Thread Display Options (showthread) --> Show Default Post Icon

fix that path as you did in the previous answer.

You guys are awesome, thanks! I'm not sure how the entire URL was set for the smilies and icons, but i set them to only the image path (/images/smilies/) and it works.
