PassiveVid, or AME? Which is better?

PassiveVid or AME, which is better?

Anyone try/use both?

We are looking for a stable, fully functioning, clean looking, low-overhead mod for vid embeds.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

To tell you the honest truth, when I installed Anymedia, my forum got hacked by a spybot the next day. I must have not installed it properly. I would recommend PassiveVid.

Are you currently running PassiveVid? - It looks like it supports the sites we would like to embed, but I think AME looks a bit cleaner/refined (at least on the sites where I have seen it in operation)

The most important things to us (in order) are stability, support, style, and flexibility.

Thanks for outlining your experience with AME.

I don't like how AME marks all of the videos [ame] so if you ever uninstall (which you will eventually at some point most likely) the URL's in your posts are all screwed up. Passivevid seems to just use [url] making it easier to transition to another embed mod. It's truel... passive.

Ame has a bulk tool for converting old media or removing its tag but if you have a lot of posts it can literally take hours. With Passivevid you can do the same thing for bulk processing old URL's except it only takes a few seconds.

I used the original Passivevid for a couple years. Then sites started changing their URLS. So I switched to AME.

To tell you honestly. I should've never changed. I have no idea how AME is supposed to work. None of the definitions except youtube work.

I installed 5 different custom BBCodes since AME is basically useless to me. I'm afraid to uninstall AME because it makes DB changes.

So I'm stuck with it.

I will give you my experience.

I use passiveVid in a vB3 board with nice results, very clean and useful, but mess up the external.php so I decide to upgrade the plugin, after that the external feed is ok but we have double post of videos :/

Now I try with AME but I DON'T use it cause it makes DB Changes specifficaly in a sensible area like posts, and if you have a big board with more than 1 Million of posts? Is a pain.

So I will use passiveVid if they upgrade it but I don't have plans with AME only if the coder make it more clean without any DB or post table change....

I also will recommend passivevid coz it don't need more work and it don't change the posted data on the DB it just uses php functions to replace the showed post and it's clean on the database

I also used AME but i don't recomment it for beginners and it also do change posts on the DB and needs to resore the changed data using the hack if you wanted to uninstall the hack, and any faults may cause your post to go nasty but at last it has more sites definitions and works fine with me on a website i used this hack in till now
