How to mod the top of vbulletin default template/style?

Hi - quick question, I'm new to vb... I've bought some templates/skins that are modded nicely, I was wondering for any of you who are dreamweaver users etc, any tips on how to easiest change the templates/styles of the standard vbulletin 3.6.8 template?

For example, I can switch the logo graphic with one I create, but how do I easily modify the very top of the forum so that I can add several tables (or banner rotator etc) to the top
part of the forum?

I've looked through the template settings and style settings and can't find standard html code for that, so I'm probably overlooking it. Would it be easier to just mod the php files in dreamweaver, for example? If so, which ones control most of the look and feel of the forum?

Any other tips, from dreamweaver users re how to easily mod vbulletin's php files like that?

Much appreciated,

Ken C

p.s. I'm a very experienced DW user, it would be great if I could copy and paste or directly mod the php files for vbulletin to achieve the look I want, vs the hassle of manually entering table size values in the admincp utility... any tips? thank you!

there's no easy way of doing this but once you know what to look for it will become easy

For now, I suggest having a "test" forum and do all your edits there.

If you are unsure of what templates are used, enable ADMINCP / vBulletin Options / Add Template Name in HTML Comments. This option will add the template name to your HTML source.
