Mr. Slugworth 05-17-2001 08:09 PM

I just started using vbulletin, and I am very impressed by both the flexibility of the program as well as the generosity of the users to share their talents with the rest of us.

My request is that I would like to be able to have a countdown show somewhere on the board or external page. I would have a user enter a date for a specific activity in the profile page, or calendar (ie. next time I staying in a timeshare), and then it would automatically show elsewhere (header, calendar, who knows) how many days and months are left until that day, and would automatically update each day. I wouldn't mind this being a countdown to a calendar date either, so that you could count down to birthdates, vacations, etc...

Any ideas on how to go about this?

OK, after thinking about it, I would like to be able to set it up so that every private event would have the option to countdown to it, and the output would show up in a location that the admin determined to be best. That would definitely fit the bill. (ie. 3 months and 4 days to your birthday).

Thanks!

So, no interest in this by anyone?

i was thinking about creating a hack for this

how about this:

it would be based of calendar events (but not birthdays)

countdown either to one specified (by admin) date, or the next event to happen... (configurable by board admin)

events are set to be counted down to by admins

any other things i should think about before i get goin on this?

I wouldn't do it by admin. I'd give every user the option to create their own personal calendar event and on their profile and every post they make, there's a countdown to the even in their profile.
