variables questions

hello, a couple of weeks ago i cam across an interesting thread. but at that time i did not saved it, now i need it. the thread was about explaining the use of variables and such how tu use them on templates

such as this

can any one help me finding it or has it booked mark or perhaps a better link they can share...

i would like to understand it more or perhaps a guide that will teach me about it
