Dedicated Server Help

Hey guys and Gals,

I just purchased a dedicated server for my sites, Could anyone tell me, If I am moving a vbulletin forum to it, do I just upload the files there? And how do I get the database over there? I guess what im asking is could someone just give me a little step by step on how to move it?

Im sure there are lots of step to step tutorials on google for this, but basically you can use your phpmyadmin to transfer the database. Backup your database, save it to your desktop, open your (plesk, cpanel?) and import the sql file through phpmyadmin... or use ssh.

Feel free to ask if you have questions about a specific step.

The process is really simple:
- Copy all your files using ftp
- Backup database on old server
- Restore database on new server

Those are the basic steps needed to transfer vBulletin.

Additional tasks that might be needed:
- Update config.php if MySQL username/password is different on the new server.
- Ensuring that the domain is pointing to the new server
- If board URL has changed, update it in the vBulletin Options
- If you have cookie problems, use tools.php to reset them.

If you use cPanel on both your current server/shared hosting, and the dedicated server/shared hosting you are switching to, then your provider should be more than willing to move it all over for you.

Usually, you can just ask your host and they'll do the move for you. Give them a little pressure since you're a new dedicated server for them and they will help if they're one of the good companies.
