.exe

No idea where to put this.

Is there anyway you can add a .exe or program to a forum through your FTP and it actually work?

I know you could do this with ZIP files for example, but I'm talking actual applications, like Freeware or Shareware. Or is this illegal?

What do you mean by "actually work"?

If you upload a exe file to your server you can only download the file, you won't be able to run it through the browser or anything if that is what you are looking for.

Ok let me clarify.

Can I download a program, any program, doesn't matter, and actually upload the program to my website or forum?

Doesn't even have to be forum related, and actually get the program to work?

Please explain "and actually get the program to work".

As Opserty already replied: you can have any type of attachment you want (as long as defined in AdminCP).
You can not execute .EXE software from within vBulletin.

.exe is actually the only program file extension I can remember off the top of my head after downloading something recently. It really could be any file extension that is of an actual program.

But what I mean by actually working is, I'll have to give an example, ok just popped in my head

If I download WinAmp, can I not upload that to my forum or website and actually be able to run the program from my website? Run = works like it does on your computer offline.

Legality not an issue, this is an example.

Unless your browser has specific Plugins (like the Quicktime Plugin for FireFox, which allows you to run .mov files in the browser), then you can't. You cannot run exe files in a browser but you will be able to download them to your computer and then run them.

exe files you won't be able to run. You can find code somewhere which will allow you to embed some video formats and audio formats, but these will rely on the visitor having the required programs installed on their computer. (Windows Media Player is a common one)

This would be a titanic security hole and a hacker's dream.
