How do I ?

I need to post pdf document in threads. The title of the thread will be the name of the document. When you open the thread I want the document to come up. How can I do that. Thanks Im a newbie.

When you says "open the thread I want the document to come up", do you mean you want the pdf to somehow be the thread contents (I don't think that is possible) or do you mean you want the attachment popup window to open for the user to either open the pdf in their browser or download it?

It sounds to me like you might to better to write some code where the user uploads a pdf file, it is uploaded to a directory on your site, and then you have a page which lists all the files in that directory and if someone clicks on one of them, it is either downloaded or opened in their browser. I'm not that familiar with all the mods here, especially ones dealing with attachments/files/uploads, but you can try searching in the Mods section and see what comes up.

At first I wanted the document to appear in the thread contents. What you suggested would be fine. Here is what I need any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Our group has events monthly. I want to put the flyers for each event under a thread or in a forum so when you select the event date you will access the flyer. Thanks

You can upload PDF's in threads. Why not just upload it and then a user can click it?

Yeah, it doesn't sound like you really need to do anything fancy for this. Why not have just one forum specifically for the flyers? Ask the thread poster to use a certain format for the thread title, like "yyyy-mm-dd Title-of-flyer" or something like that. If they use that format, then it is easy to sort by date of flyer.
