CHMOD Problem

Our host will not allow us to set anything to CHMOD 777 as they insist it's a security risk. Regardless of the arguments around this the fact remains that we cannot use it. Is there another setting, like 755 maybe, that will work or are we doomed either not to have the arcade or find a new host?
