I Need Help With Quotes...again!

Here's my problem:

I have a debate forum. People like to quote articles a lot. However, if you quote someone, it doesn't include what they quoted. This is obviously because typically the person you are quoting is quoting YOU, and you don't want to quote yourself.

But when people post an article, that's part of their response. So members want that to show up when you quote someone. The obvious solution to this is to have members manually quote the article. But I'd like to make it easier than that.

I was thinking of maybe adding a custom BBCode for quoting articles. And these special "article quotes" would get included when quote someone. Is that possible?

Thanks.

Thats what the quote button with the + sign is for next to the regular quote button.

Wha? That's the multi-quote button. That's not what I'm talking about. I mean if you quote this post, it's only going to quote what I'm typing; it's not going to quote the top half where I quoted what you said.

Like I said, I have a debate forum. So sometimes members quote articles as part of their arguments. And when someone wants to quote their arguments to rebut them, the articles aren't included when you click the quote button.

I saw a mod last year that piggy backs all quotes... I can see if I can find it.

Yea, that would make regular posts behave like PM's. But I think it looks a little messy.

That's why I was thinking of making a custom bbcode for posting excerpts from articles. Like, there would be a [article] tag. It would be just like quotes, except these article-quotes would be "nested".

So basically, I don't want all quotes "nested", just article excerpts. So my solution was to make a separate bbcode for articles. Is this possible? Or is there maybe a better solution?
