3.7x Social Groups Modifiation Question/Discussion

This isn't a help thing this is just something I was pondering about 3.7x

How hard would it be to replace the comments with a thread but have them designed the same as comments, so when commenting/posting on a social group page, they get the credit post/comment count. Would it be easier to create a comment count (I don't know if there is already one) and then add that onto posts, kind of merging them into one entity when searching etc.

I love the social groups system coming with 3.7x, I just want to be able to have people comment and get credit for their activity.

Ideas? Thoughts?
