Unable to download 2.x releases

I know they are archived but are the supposed to be undownloadable as well?

Thanks

it's available for "information" only

Good enough :)

Thanks

What is the point of showing the link if I can't download the file? Also why was the ability to download them removed? Surely we aren't running out of disk space (The "no one downloads them anymore" argument doesn't cut it for me, I'm obviously still downloading them from time to time).

Not begin able to download them makes my last request in this forum more or less useless. I wish you would've given us some advanced warning so I could've archived all my older modifications on my local hard disk....as far as I know vB.org has the only copy of them now.

Although I agree that downloads should still be applicable to archived modifications, it is not vBulletin.org's responsibility to host modifications as "back ups" or anything like that.

It is the author's sole responsibility to keep any work he cherishes on his local hard drive. (Same thing goes for user's who download modifications.)

I'm not asking you guys to become an archive. I'm asking you to give us some warning next time the lot of you decide to go loopy on a rainy day.

Why do people always have to be so confrontational and accusing, "why was this done" ?, "why was that done" ?. Stamp my feet.

Quite simply the archives are read only, including no downloads, and always have been, therefore when the forums moved, they inherited those permissions.

The simplest explanations are usually the right ones .......

Why do you have to take it personal?

You and I both know that the archive had nothing in it but a few very old vB 1 hacks and threads from back when everything was imported from the forums at vB.com. Obviously that wasn't much of a problem has the user base for vB 1.x was very small and again there were only a handful of modifications in there.

The vB 2.x hacking forums were the "glue" that held this community together for the longest time. Removing the the ability to download is basically the same as going through the history books and removing text from them.

Of course I wouldn't be ranting about this at all if you'd warned up a few days in advance first. At least then I would've had time to back up the files I wanted.

I agree entirely with Brad. I didn't even notice that the ability to download those mods was taken away. Plenty of people are still using vB2. My latest client ultrashock only upgraded from vB2 this month. Not everyone keeps up to date :)

i would be more neutral on this point of view here... both have their reasons, both are right ...

what i would suggest is that the 2.x forums are taken back to their state, and designated as "Historical Archives Only for References"... people can download at their own risk (the forum description is not complicated to edit!), and no possibility to post new messages, because these releases are not supported anymore.

I see why the site is not for archives, you do not have to provide archives for the coders or else, but you do it anyway... so the thing is .. "how to provide this archive"... a lot of times the stuff in the graveyard was discussed because people wanted to be able to download the files even when the scripts were obsolete etc... there is always reasons why people do that, and that's boring *(yeah yeah, people needs it!)... so, one thing could be that you just lock the forums so there is no more life out there, and you give the right to download these archives... they are stocked anyway, you did not delete them...

for me, the day when a coder is offline for 3 months means he will never support his plugins anymore... even when they are tagged supported... they are kept in the forum because people are supporting them between them... this is a wrong thing to do... i would see that when a coder is 3 months away, we lock his threads and the products are downloadable - and unsupported ...

same for the 2.x stuff... with no support, the visits in these forums will slow down a lot in no time... and nobody will argue anymore because they can continue to download them...

my 2ยข (canadian $ btw!)
