Getting logo to fit width of page background
 

I'm sure this has been asked before so I'm sorry if I'm being repetitive.

I'd like to know how I go about getting my logo to stretch the width of the 'page background' area or even the entire width of the page. It currently looks like this:

And I'd like it look something like this:

http://www.paxilprogress.org/forums

Obviously I need to resize the logo for starters, which is not problem, but how do I find out how big I need to resize it to match either of these areas?
