is 2gb ram enough for a big board

Hello everybody

right now I'm looking for a new dedicated server for my board.. and I needed to make sure of one thing.. is a 2gb ram server with a xeon or opteron dual core processor enough for a big forum or do I need more ram?

Thank you for your help :)

It all depends on what a BIG board is to you....

How many users in 15 minutes?

It also depends on the type of mods you add. and how big your database gets. Mysql loves ram :) the bigger it gets the more ram it loves (the more time its accessed)

well... my forum has 748,081 posts.. and over 40000 members.. the database right now is about 1 gb
well.. does this need mor than a 2 gb ram server?

Thank you for your help :)

The number of posts or members does not make a difference at all.

It is the number of concurrent users online and the average pagesize, and time it takes to execute queries that is most important.

I suggest you post at the Server configuration forum at vbulletin.com.

How many users do you have online at a time?1 GB of RAM would be good enough I guess but if you need more you can upgrade at that time.

How can you say that 1Gb RAM is enough, if you do not have any information yet to calculate this?

I really don't understand your replies.

I do not compute them well either.

I'd imagine with the information given so far, that 1GB of ram would probably load the site in a acceptable amount of time.

The simple answer is you won't know until it's been running a while and you see how much swap file gets used.

The general rule with RAM is - the more you can get, the better.

how much ram does this server have?
