Private Registration

I need to install a forum for a software product that I develop.

What I would like to do is:

Require a password/code for registration to the forum
Only those with the registration code can signup
Disable the forum for guests

I have an automated software delivery system in place. If I were able to disable registrations, except to those that have a special code, then when a customer purchases my software, I can send the registration code to them with their order email. In turn, they could visit the registration page and enter their code when signing up and become a member. Without the code, new members could not signup.

Is this possible? I've searched through add-ons section and found one plugin that was close to this, but is no longer being supported.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

best thing for your registration code would be the Invite System, so only people invited to the site via that system can register, using their invitation key.

forum disabled to guests is a setting in the default configs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did look at the Invite System, but it's no longer being supported and the thread, towards the end, indicated it didn't work with the latest version.

Is there any other method I could accomplish this?

it is working
just the cronjob is not working but you can make your own^^

Hi ragtek,

thanks for the followup. I'll give it a try.

Kind regards...

actually, the cron job is not acting on what you need from the tool... it is updating the count of invitations a user can have... but if you are the admin who give invitations, you do not need that feature...

This would be a good feature to add.

If you use vb 3.7 then you could just use the question/answer feature, create a question for the code and make the answer your registration code. Thats how I would do it though.
