In the Admin CP under Maintenance, run Repair/Optimize Database a few times.

The error states "lost connection to mysql server", meaning that the server lost its connection and couldn't talk to mysql, this should be checked by your host as to why mysql is going away when trying to connect to it.

If this is a dedicated server, you should check the mysql logs for errors as to why its failing.

This problem is very similar to mine. My forum has started giving me Database errors recently with the email error :

mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Unknown MySQL server host 'mysql2.streamline.net' (2) /home/fhlinux210/t/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/class_core.php on line 273

I can still post often, but its giving me DB errors every few clicks. Very annoying for my members. If anybody can provide more assistance, its much appreciated.

You really should contact your host to get this resolved.
