Font Creation?

I need some good freeware or open source font creation software and I was wondering if anyone with font creation experience could give me some suggestions. I need to create a high quality font for use with Photoshop. I found several overpriced applications like high logic's but I don't want to pay that much to make a font for one project. I also found an online bmp font creator but the quality is not good enough. Ultimately, I need a freeware or open source app for creating fonts from pictures (logos.) This is mainly to make it a little easier, I can just fake it if nothing else, but I am mainly just curious to see if there are any free alternatives. If anyone has suggestions meeting that criteria please leave a response. Thank you!

Well as I mentioned, freeware or open source. All of those are paid or out of date and non-existent. Thanks but does anyone else have a suggestion?

They are not free, but you will never find a font software that is free... or you steal it.

Not strictly true nex.

Back in the days I used a free program called FontForge. Which is, as far as I know, still free. You can download this program here.

I know nex, I'm cheap. But the fonts you can create with this program are nothing short of amazing :p

I got that but when I run it I get an error message. I will have to look into it further since you suggested it and post my results. I am running it on Win2K so that could be causing the problem. Thanks Shelley!

Edit: Ok, obviously it is because of cygwin. I will work on installing it. So it can create high quality true type fonts or something else I can use in photoshop?

Nevermind, I am reading. :) It has excellent documentation btw.

Looking back when I used this program it was a tricky piece of software to get running but it's well worth spending the time in getting this to run.

Let me know how you get on with this (Heck, I might even install it myself).

You are never cheap Shelley... not everybody can invest 5000$ per years in softwares like me.. .lol

it's just that usually, graphics softwares are not free because there is a solid cash market in that side of the computing universe...

anyway, i suppose the free stuff can help!
