Page ranking

Not exactly sure if this is the correct spot but.. I designed a splash style enter page for my site and was wondering does Google rank off the main page of the site or your forums? I have my main page xhtml/css compliant no errors but when I added mods to my site I get xhtml errors of course. I don't really fully understand how Google page rank works. I am trying to get up in page rank but with every mod I add it adds more errors. I am one of those people that likes to have my site perfect functional and looks wise.

Main Page

Yes, google looks for content on the main page. I sincerely reccommend you not to use a splash page.

Whats your recommendation then? I just made the simple image enter page for now till I could come up with a main page but are enter pages not good? Could I have a little more detail on why I should not have a splash page? I am just trying to understand at the moment because if it is not good I will start the main page tonight.

I see no real point in a splash page. A splash page is not really needed on a forum unless you are warning a user that there is Adult Content. Reason being is that SE (Search Engines) like content on the main page, and the better content you have the better PR.

On your website, i see no point in a splash page - the forum doesn't have Adult content.

Just my two cents ;)

Awesome well mainly I was trying to give it more of a look instead of just a dull forum, But I see now. So I noticed when I upload mods say last online mod I get a few errors in xhtml and with each mod there is more. If I remove all mods I have 1 error with the lang of the skin does all these errors affect page rank? Sorry to keep bugging but I just like to full understand what I am working with.

In a word, no. Besides, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on page rank. It has no substantial affect on SERPS - in my experience anyway.
