VBulletin Database Errors

I keep getting database errors that point to the class_core.php line 274

This is an example of the error:

Database error in vBulletin :

mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) /home/themesbb/public_html/t4bbforum/includes/class_core.php on line 274

MySQL Error :
Error Number :
Date : Wednesday, October 17th 2007 @ 10:46:07 AM
Script : http://www.themes4bb.com/t4bbforum/
Referrer : http://www.themes4bb.com/
IP Address : 209.145.141.2
Username :
Classname : vb_database

I am not an expert on PHP and I do not know if there is an error or if it is server related. I have taled to my host SEVERAL times regarding this error. They have modified the MySQL database so that more connections may connect...but I still get the database errors.

Any idea what I can do?

Thanks for your input.

Steve

you sure mysql aint down on your server also where is the error number ?

MySQL Error :

edit seems u fixed it your board is up and running fine

That error generally means mysql was not running.

1. The info in your config.php file is wrong (in which case your forums wouldn't work at all), or
2. MySQL crashed, it's not running or it can't find the socket. You need to contact your host about this. A restart of the MySQL deamon might solve it.

Here is more info on this error:

thanks for the info...

I have contacted my host SEVERAL times..and I am beginning to wonder if I am on "the list"...

Everytime I email them or send in a support ticket, they reply..."your site is up and running, we cannot find a problem."

I have sent them copies of the error messages and everything.

Also..how can I tell if the PHP file is correct or not? This is the PHP file that was supplied when I installed VBulletin.

Thanks again..
Steve

You must have edited it to enter your database details. Check they are still correct.

<font color="darkgreen">Sounds exactly like what my host is doing to me. I still get these errors from time to time and I never changed the config file as it just started happening a couple of weeks ago.

I did get them to discover that they have a db latency issue on their mysql server. So hopefully if they ever fix that it will fix the errors too.

What host do you have? I have networksolutions, the worst host in the world. I am moving my sites soon as the contract is almost up.</font>

It doesn't seem to be a host issue. I have a host with Layeredtech (dedicated server, not shared) and I still getting the same error email as OP about 100 every 5 mins. My managed server company can't seem to find out what's wrong.

Worst yet, I can't disable the email error. I disable error and handling in vboption, change email to different email in config.php. I even tried to close the forum and my old email is still keep getting error :(.

If you are updating the config.php to a new address and still getting errors to the old address then clearly something is wrong with what you are doing - either you are not editing the right file, or your changes are not being saved (or maybe a php cache is in use and it is not picking up the changes).

<font color="darkgreen">I get the db errors when I have just 1 or 2 members/guests on my site. How could it be a connection limit issue if there is only 1 or 2?</font>
