ideas ideas ideas! UGH

yeah well, I've setup my forum just how I like it... and I was all keyed up with my categories and topics when I started discussing my forum to a fellow webmaster (oh yeah it's a design and coding/webmasters forum) and he really turned me off the idea and suggested I do something else. I just had a couple things I wanted to run by you guys here at vBorg.

What are some niches that are just way too saturated? I believe most anything will work with marketing but there has to be some idea's out there that are just too saturated or monopolized to even try.

Is it a good idea to be broad or specific? One of the idea's I thought of doing was a Guy's Forum. Having a section for babes, games, and beer (lol yeah I know) but then I thought "wouldn't it be better to target one of these instead of all of them?"

everything that you can find in a magazine is overused...

everything you already see on google is overused...

so you will have to find your own niche if you want to have a part of the market... we can't really help you here, because we're all admins with the same problem...

I never thought of it like that... good point.

someone should delete this thread I guess lol

nexialys 09-25-2007 10:53 AM

... bad idea to delete such thread... continue your quest!

What's a subject you are interested in? Something in relation to your own hobbies or skills will mean that you can probably create better content than a broad topic or something you only know a little bit about.

I'm a huge Dark Tower fan so that is how I decided what I would do. After many months of research, I found out there were only two other fan sites on the net.

One is wildly popular but very neglected, the other has been abandoned completely as far as I can tell.

You should start a forum because you enjoy the topic, not because you want to make money or make it huge...

:)

Exactly! If it is not something you love, the "money pit" aspect gets pretty hard to deal with after a while.

Not only that, doing something you love translates to your actions and how you admin the board.
