but not viewable when you go into the forum the subforum is a subforum of? hope this makes sense

It's clear for me, if you mean: when you enter the forum, you don't want its subforums to be listed in top of it.

You'll have to remove the table near the top of your forumdisplay template.

thanks but i dont want to remove the subforums from every forum. just a specific one. wouldnt what you stated dismounted remove all of them?

Wrap a conditional around it instead of removing it.
