Best way to Install Multiple Avatars

Hi,

What is the best way to install a folder of eg Animals1 avatars into the eg Animals category.
Sometimes vB recognises the image, and some folders it doesn't - just shows "lion2.gif?"

Permissions are

/images = 775

all subdirs and images below this are =777

I create a categ, upload a folder into right subdir, point the cpadmin to it AddMultiple. sometimes it works, soemtimes it doesn't. Do I have to manually chmod each new subdir?
