"Downloaded:" thread prefix

What's the reasoning behind this? Are you trying to trick me into clicking install, just because I've downloaded a modification?

The thread titles are already long enough in some cases to warrant having a prefix.

It's merely there to remind you that you've downloaded that modification.

I don't need a reminder that I've downloaded it though. It serves no purpose. Why would anyone ever need to know they've downloaded a modification. An install prefix, would be far more appropriate and useful, IMHO :)

their an install one also. also a tagged one ;)

Dean C 09-05-2007 02:33 PM

Okay sure, tagged and installed I can completely understand. But why would you ever need to know if you've downloaded a mod?

I find it quite useful at times. Simply because I have a single list in my User CP where I can go and either switch them to installed or delete them if I decide not to use them. Keeps the install list nice and clean with only what you are actually using not what you experimented with and discarded.

Though this is before tagging and I haven't looked into how to tag a mod yet.

Why would you download a modification and not install it though? The only time I ever do that is to take a look how people have done things for example. And then I don't need a log of what i've downloaded and what I've not.

Nevertheless, I'm not suggesting we take away that page in the usercp where you can list what you've downloaded. I'm merely suggesting the prefix be dropped on forumdisplay, as it serves no function there.

You are not a common user Dean, you are a coder and more likely to download things without the intention of ever using it. Most members are just users and i guess it will be usefull for them.

I don't consider something installed unless it goes on a live site. I may download an addon and test it on one of my development installations only to find it conflicts with another addon or doesn't fulfill my functionality needs. Or I may download an addon that I never have any intention of using but want to see how it works.

I like it - it helps me keep track of new posts in thing I've installed/downloaded.

New posts can also mean new versions and fixes
