Removing Images from Quotes

What we want to do is remove images from Quotes and replace them with a URL to the image instead (so simply replace [img] with [url] when inside [quote]). The goal is simply to reduce clutter in the thread display when someone quotes a post that contains images. I've seen some requests for this already (and I've even found one plugin but for some reason it hangs our forum when enabled), but no one seems to have had any luck.
