Cron job dumping "CoreXXXX" files
 

I have a file in my forum that is running what appears to be a possible cron job that is dumping files titled "coreXXXX", with XXXX being numerical strings, onto my forum directory. These files are about 40MB in size each, and they collect at a rate of about every hour or so. Eventually my server space limit gets exceeded, and nothing can happen on the web site for a while. Anyone have any idea which file may be causing this, and how I might get it to stop? I have two other vBulletin boards, and they don't exhibit this pattern. The site mentioned works beautifully except for the files piling up on my server. Thanks for any help.

core dumps come from serious program crashes, such as seg faults or bus errors. The core file, which is appended by a timestamp or process id or something similar, contains binary debugging information on the problem that caused the crash which can be read with debugging tools.

These files are always called "coreXXXX" regardless of the program that created them. They can always be deleted and will not cause any problems.

Basically, you have a serious error in some executable.
