Hi - I want to hook up my board (version 1.X) to a chat program I am testing. I want my board members to automatically go to the chat without choosing a nickname and non members be redirected to a page where I can tell them "for members only" (of course, can be on same page).

The chat software works the way I want if I set <param name="nickname" value="myBoardMemberName"> on page ChatEntrance.php . When I hard code in a name, and the user clicks on "connect" this works fine, the user is logged right in to the Chat applet.

So:

1. when a member hits my board, is his user name immediately known from his cookie or does he have to do some more activity first before vbb recognizes him? If the later, then he should be given the opportunity to log in right there on the ChatEntrance.php page.

2. If the user is already known to the vbb program, then the code I am looking for should replace "myBoardMemberName" with his username.

I think this is fairly simple stuff and I can't spend too much, but I am in a hurry. I am a programmer, just limited php and vbb.
