post.ipaddress index?

Does anyone know why there's no index on the ipaddress field in the post table?

IP address searches are so slow, surely an index here would be a huge speed up. I know updating the index will be a bit of a hit when adding posts but surely not much compared to the benefit of a searching ips?

I just don't see why jelsoft left this index out.
