vBulletin Social Networking Questions

  1. Will there be converters for the social networking part? Because I would hate to lose comments from mods like VS Interactive Profiles, or profile styles. But nice to see at least the blog has them.
  2. What things count as social networking? Seriously, is it something that's become as ambiguous and non meaning as web 2.0 or existentialism?
  3. Does anything think version 3.7 will have database changes or the like? Minor stuff, major?
Final few things are:

Any ideas on forums here for project tools and blog? Any possibility of using the addons here for any purpose? And if you wondered why I did not join the .com site and post that there, why should I? It's not as if the official .com forum has anything to join for exactly, seeing as any modifications or the like can be viewed by guests.

Depends on if anyone is interested in writing them. ;)

Yes.

We've been "social networking" since before the public internet, what happened is the media finally caught wind of it. :p

The answer to both is "maybe" or "probably". ;)

Okay, since it may have converters. Although waiting for an official answer.

As for social networking, that's probably true. Then again, people were blogging before the idea of a blog was supposedly shown, simply by updating static pages with news and ideas or writing about their personal life/etc on Geocities pages or the like. Seriously, you can run a manual blog very easily.

Oh for the final question. Really was hoping it would not interfere with any modifications.

If a plugin makes a table with the same name as a proposed table or has a field with the same name as one introduced in a future version, then it will be broken. We don't track every table and field name used by plugins. We use what feels appropriate when the software is written. Remember you modify vBulletin at your own risk.

However really very few plugins or addons have been broken since the release of 3.5.0.

Attempt upgrading on a test forum first and you won't have any issues with modifications breaking your website. The whole purpose of the testing enviroment is to catch errors and fix them before attempting the real upgrade.

As for converting from hacks to offical products; There is no doubt in my mind that someone out there will want to do this and will have the know how to write a custom importing routine for the data. We can only hope that they release it here for everyone else. We'll just have to wait and see how popular these new products become...the more people using them the better chance someone will modify 'em.

Have a good one! O and hey Wayne! How are things on the left coast? :)

Hot, Humid, and Dry (for the most part). We got a little heat storm last night but it didn't rain much. :(

It has been a bad year for us farmers. ;/

I know how that is.. It is so dry here in the desert that the cactus and Joshua trees are dying.

Sorry to derail. We should return it to the original topic.

well
allow to me before answer your question found some of sttaf here to just
tell as what limited of social network will be on 3.7
I don’t see what problem if jelsoft say what will offer in new version of vbulletin
cuz I consider to use SN script but I don’t know what will be on 3.7
so I must wait
all we know what social network
it’s include this
Blogs
forum
Profiles
Blogs
Classifieds
Events
Clubs
Music
Videos
eCards
GetPaid
Polls
chat
games

In fact there are at vB.org hack for every one of this
but need pro developer to integreat it

while jelsoft not consider to take any modification at vB.org
and develope it then releas it as offical product
on that time u can say vbulletin will be the biggest social network

Well if u want to have satisfied customers u better rethink of creating importers. No importer = No purchase. So jelsoft looses

Needless to say there are 460 installs of Interactive profiles and another 460 installs of Zoints.

So lets say 1000 boards. Assuming the official addons costs 50 (which will cost more than vblog) we are talking about 50k cash here and even more.
