Side Bars

I'm trying to find out how to get side bars (Gradients) - not columns for text, just gradients.

I've tried putting my forum in a table, but I can't get the gradients close enough to the forum itself.

Here's a quick example:

I would like to try to get the orange bars on my forum.

Any help?
