Can users control Forum Listings Display?

Some of my users want to see all forums and subforums listed, some want it collapsed, some want the subforums as links under forums, etc.

Is there an easy way for me to set a default but give them the option to change the display? The only way I see is to do it globally through ACP.

Could I create a template that gives them each display option and then allow users to select the template? If so, which ones do I edit and what would I do?

If there's a plug-in that does this, I'd greatly appreciate someone pointing me to it.

thanks!

i'd like to know this as well

FYI, David. I heard from VB support and they said there isn't a way to do this without coding and template mods. Seems like a very obvious feature to me though. If I had the skills, I'd create a mod to do it.

Sounds simple enough using Custom Profile Fields and Conditional Statements in the forumbit templates.

If you describe exactly how you'd like the forums displayed, I can throw something together when I get some time.

Hey Kirk -- that would be great. Basically all I'd want to do is offer the users the same choices that an admin has via the ACP -- show all forums and subforums, just show forums, or show forums with subforums as links. It seems the simplest way would be something that replicates your default template and adds those changes, because ideally, I'd like to avoid having to re-customize 3 sets of styles every time there's a VB upgrade. I'd guess you could do that by having a parent style and having the other options inherit everything but forum display?

What do you mean "show all forums and subforums" -- how is that different than subforums as links?

show all forums and subforums gives a full list of each forum and the subforums under it with descriptions, threads and latest posts, etc. It gives the same information for subforums that it does for forums

Show subforums as links just gives you a link with the subforum name. you have to click on it to see the subforum description and posts.

I must've missed the setting for the first one in the AdminCP...
