Is there a list of pro VB desingers?

I'm very interested in setting up a regional community web site with VB. Having put together and run a very large Invision forum in the past I'm well familiar with the concepts of a forum, and am an old-days programmer that can get around well enough installing, moding, and maintaining web sites. However, I have not yet used VB and additionally I am no designer and not very good with CSS. And I want the site to look like much more than simply a forum with a nice theme. For example, I really like how far the site gotakeahike.com was taken.

So, I'm looking for a VB expert that is well-versed in VB, VBadvanced, and whatever else I'll need, and is a good designer. I'd like to do as little or no code hacks as possible to facilitate upgrades (which always make me nervous). I need a designer that is responsive and can take a little time to work with me on features, options, layout and such, in a professional relationship.

Where can I find such designers? Is there a list anywhere?

If anyone reading this is such a person please pm or email me (not sure I have pm/email ability since I don't have a license yet) or post here. Please include a link to your portfolio page or a list of some sites you've created.

Thank you.

Oh, and also, I'm thinking I should just go buy a license and load it up and start playing with it. I'm going to get a new hosting account for this project. Are there any hosts that specifically have tuned their servers to work well with VB, and understand it should there be some problems.? I remember when I had Invision, I had all sorts of problems that were caused by my host not setting some values optimally for the product.

As long as the host meets the requirements (below) then it will be fine.

Minimum Requirements: vBulletin is designed to run on every server that has PHP 4.3.3 or greater and MySQL 4.0.16 or greater installed.

It is recommended to use PHP 4.4.2 or 5.1.2, or later and MySQL 5.0.19 or later.

The software has been successfully installed on several different flavours of UNIX, as well as Windows™ 98/NT/2000/XP, and the Mac

Note: We recommend you contact your hosting provider to verify that they have the correct versions of PHP and MySQL installed. If you administrate your own server, PHP and MySQL are available for free download from php.net and mysql.com.

I'm not really a good designer so don't look at me for any styling :p

There is no such "list". You can, however, post in the Paid Requests section. You will be abnle to do that once you have obtained a vBulletin license.

Take my word for it, there are designers here who make a living off what they do. Make a request in the services area and I am sure that you will get atleast 5-10 professional designers willing to offer their services. vB has some of the best in the world.

I'd like to make a post in the Paid Services forum BEFORE I buy a license, because I'd like to discuss my specs with one of more developers. However, the catch-22 is that I need to buy a license first. But I really don't know if I'm 100% sure if I'm going to do it until I go into some deeper discussion with a developer.

catch-22

If I were you, purchase vB because its the way to go and then make a thread in the service request forum for sure. Just like all these other people said you will get a lot of good replies!

People like me have been doing it for years, but there are hundreds of people on here like that, but only a few do top quality work

Best wishes on your search

As being the owner and designer of GoTakeAHike.com, I thank you for your compliment.

I learned most of the things about vBulletin that I know through this site. So, I can only be as helpful as the professionals on here, but I am always willing to give advice and help out however I can within the community.

Just let me know what i can do to help.

I would recommend miner at www.minerskinz.com. He will work with you on every area and aspect of your forum.

Our site has 2 skins as of now, but a lot are going to go up soon. I recommend using us for custom work as well...

Anyway, you can find more info in my sig.
