SMF to VB 3.6.8 convertion

I have converted an SMF 1.1.3 forum to VB 3.6.8, useing Impex v1.83, everything seems OK, apart from the passwords don't work.

I there any alternative to asking all users to go through the password recovery process, which is a real pain.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Dave.

There isn't, as SMF encrypts passwords differently, there's no way for vBulletin to grab them.

I thought that would be the case, so please can you give me your advice on the best work around, or should I say most straight forward, so as not to confuse members to much. lol

Ask members to reset their passwords. To do this they must have a working email address

yep, I'm going todo that, & redo the import again, as the data is a few days out of date now anyway.

I will just post a link directly to the recover password page then.

Sadly, resetting passwords is the only way to get users and passwords... Unless you hack vBulletin to use the old passwords, but that would be a really really confusing task and upgrades would be a PITA!

i dont understand all this things ...

before i bought vbulletin i thought (i read) an import from smf is compatible

indeed its NO compatible

Let know all users who want to import from smf to vbulletin (or not?)

It is compatible. Every board has a different method of storing and retrieving passwords, meaning you can't possibly expect another board's passwords to work without a change.

It's compatible because you can import all posts/threads/forums/etc.. Passwords are encrypted differently for each forum software, you can possibly expect passwords to just "change".
