Help with string replace

I need a little help with string replacements

$reputation['reason'] <= this is the string I'm working with

$reputation['username'] <= I need to remove this from the string no matter where it appears in the the string, even if it's in the middle of a word

For example:

Original string: This is someREMOVEtext

After the replacement should be: This is sometext
