How to Run Vbulletin just on Laptop

Ok,

I know I have seen this mod somewhere or whatever, so you can run vbulletin, just on your computer or laptop. Reason I am looking for this is that I want to show potential clients at lunches etc, the working system and all of it's functions etc.

If someone could send me the link, id greatly appreciate it. Or just tell me how. thanks!

Are you on XP? If you are.

http://www.expertsrt.com/tutorials/M...ll-apache.html

Use that to install Apache/PHP/MySQL.. you may also want to get phpmyadmin and install that as well.

Then it would just be like installing it on your server. Upload the files, with the config.php changes. Then run the install script.

If you're a beginner, I recommend using a package installer like XAMPP: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html.

It has mySQL, PHP, Apache, etc. all bundled together.

Then it's simply a matter of loading your database and forum files.

I use xampp, very handy :)

And if you feel like experimenting, you could install it manually. It's a good learning experience.

I used that on my computer and it's nice not worry about hosing it since it's not a live board. You can torture the thing all you want!

I AM a beginner, and I have also had the following recommended to me:

SourceForge.net > Appolo 3.5 Uniform Server Package

I've been having a LOT of problems with trying to setup a testing server online (see thread), so I really would like to know which package will be the easiest and BEST for me to use to test locally.

I'm also wondering if this will suck up system resources all of the time, or if these programs will just launch when I'm working on my test site locally.

Please advise.

Thanks!
Jeff

Agree with the other posters. If you're on Windows XP, XAMP by Apache Friends is a god-send. By far the easiest Windows webserver installation I've ever seen.
