How do I prevent members awaiting approval from being listed as members?
 

How do I prevent non-members awaiting for approval to become members from being listed as members in the Statistics area at the botttom of the forum? To be more specific, at the bottom of the main forum there is a statistics area shows the newest member and I have noticed that as soon as someone attempts to register that they show up there even before I have approved them.

How can I change this so they can not show up there until I manually approve them.

What area within the Admin CP will allow me to make changes to that whole "What's Going On?" "Currently Active Users:" "Statistics" area at the bottom of the main forum (default style).

There is no default way, that would require custom coding, by default, that is just the last registered user to your site, doesnt mean they are in any group before you approve them, just means that they registered.
