Switching from IPB to Vbulletin

Hello
I have been wondering weather i should switch from my current IPB to vbulltin i've been a vb fan for a while but never really been able to go and pay for it till i know i will be active enough. My question is in terms of hacks and modifications. I currently working on a new sims website. My fourm will feature a place for sims to come and hang out etc. But one big feature will be familes, we are going to make four families and each is ran but an admin and mod, kind of like houses. Then we want each member to be sorted in them automatically, upon registration, i know vb has a hack like that here, which is why i am asking i dont think IPB does though.

I currently own 4 vB's and 1 IPB licence. Hands down vB is better. I bought IPB to make styles to sell (I design skins) and it's much more difficult to modify IPB. Also, there are ten times more modifications on vB.

Vbulletin:
  • Easy to modify the templates and style
  • More modifications
  • Better support
  • Less expensive
  • Better portal
IPB:
  • Profiles more like Myspace
  • More modular (everything is added like a building block)
  • Better control panel
  • Blog and gallery are made by IPB
Trust me, if you want ALOT of features and more for gamers go with vBulletin. I bought IPB before they raised their prices or I would have never gone with them. vB's portal (vBAdvanced) is so much better then the one made by bfarber for IPB. Buy vB and then make sure you thank me. LOL :D

Would you know what hack that is by any chance, i wanna be able to automatically sort members in to a specific house( ie harry potter) once they register they will be placed randomly in any of the 4 houses

How is IPB more expensive, its 149 Vb is 160, if you get the busniess license at IPB its 299 but that is just more features for busniess members. But most would go with standard which is 149. Luckly for me i bought mine when the prices were cheaper and i only need to pay the 25 for renewal

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that hack.

In my opinion it is more expensive because you only get support and upgrades for 6 months.... Like I say I bought mine before the change and I won't be buying another licence. ;)

IPB is expensive.

Come on

Quote:

  • 6 months support/upgrades
  • 30 days phone support
  • 2 business day ticket response
  • 5 day major version upgrade turnaround
  • Minor version upgrade via easy upgrade pack
  • One active installation + one test installation
  • After 6 months: $25 renewal option to access upgrades and ticket support*

1 year = 50 dollars

Go for vBulletin ;)

vB=30 bucks for 1 year, that 20 dollars to spare on my gas tank xD

Down under, we call it "Petrol" :). And $20 worth of petrol will get you nothing these days....

Back on topic, IPB is costlier and if you want custom modifications, it will be more expensive because of the difficulty.

PS. Remember you're on a vBulletin forum, you'll get everyone biasing towards vBulletin.

I dont mind either tbh, but id rather own a vb forum knowin i can mod it quicker than IPB... There both as good as each other, Plus all depends what personal style you like.

I love IPBs Control Panel, I'm mad vB hasn't updated theirs yet to something similar or just better lol. But there are so many more mods for vB, and it's overall better software for forums in my honest opinion.
