Remove banner in threads

I don't want my banner (in the header) to appear when a thread is downloaded to reduce download time. Should I use a conditional in the header template? If so, what conditional. Thanks in advance for your help.

My forum is using vBSEO which replaces showthread.php in the URL with the forum and thread title.
