One Host, One License, Two Sites, Same database?

I have a dilema, and I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on how I can accomplish this.

Essentially I am looking to have the look of two distinct web sites, using the same user database and the same vB license. They want to link to each other, but seem separate.

We are going to have two domains, but one hosting account.

My current idea to accomplish this is:
  • Set up one web site normally. This is the "first site".
  • Add in a forum category and forums, but don't make them active (where they are hidden from view, unless you know the URL).
  • Point the second domain to the Category URL of the hidden forums. This is the "second site".
  • Make two themes, one for each site, with a change of logo, etc, as appropriate.
  • Modify the hidden forums to use the second theme.
  • Modify the theme for the hidden forums so that the 'home' button will return them to the Category, not the real home page (which would be the first site). Add in a link to the first site (real index.php) in the navbar.
  • Modify the theme for the first site to add a navbar link to the second site.

Does anyone have any better ideas on how to accomplish this? Anyone see any problems with my idea above?

It looks like I am allowed to do as I suggested, per this:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103150

The final statement at the bottom... I would be using the built-in functionality to show/hide certain forums and use a different style for each forum.

You said:

with:

the same vB license
But it states on vb.com:

Quote:

you are only allowed one instance of vBulletin on one domain per vBulletin license
and also the key point you made:

They state at vb.com:

Your forum is accessable from multiple domains and your forums are configured to show/hide certain forums based on the domain. This is not OK and requires an active vBulletin license for each domain.

Separating content and forum styles by using subforums and forumdisplay links within a single domain is allowed because that functionality is built-in to vBulletin.
Herm, I missed the "single domain" part on that. Darn! Well, the second domain people will just have to deal with the fact that they will be assimilated into the first domain
