Powweb Alternatives?
I've been using Powweb. Everyone is saying how horrible they are on this board, so I was wondering if anyone had any good alternatives which are also cheap and give good amounts of hosting.
Good amounts of hosting means like that 3000GB/month of bandwidth and 300GB disk space for $60 a year. |

Bluehost is 6.99 a month for what you want BUT they run HORRIBLY with vbulletin.
vBulletin can be VERY server intensive depending on how many users, visitors, posts, threads, modifications, and quires are on the site. Most of the time you will end up overusing your CPU and getting a temporarily suspended page. More Disk space and bandwidth is NOT always better. If you really use that much bandwidth a month, then get a VPS so you have MORE CPU usage allotment. It will help in the long run. Even those host that say "setup for vBulletin" that have what you are looking for suck because they are set for the bare minimal that a vbulletin is needed to run -- meaning no custom templates, no modifications ect. You just cannot survive on a Shared Hosting plan if your forums is very large at all. |
Check out www.hostgator.com as well. I love them :) No issues at all. When I was with powweb, my site went down for a few hours every other day. So.........that was the end of them for me

Works perfectly fine for me and my other users, I just checked with all of my moderators. I don't know where you got the s=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx that follows the index.php in your screenshot.

I think thats just a guest session ID.

Hostgator is great. I like their plans and their 99.9% uptime guarantee as long as it isn't thee same as PowWebs...

Are you switching because you are experiencing problems, or is this based on what you have read?
If you are happy where you are, stay there. Do not be afraid to move if the host goes down hill, but base this decision on your personal experiences and not what you read. Shared hosts all have similar problems....it is the nature of the environment and business model. |
^^My site has gone down 3 times for several hours. After reading around here, it made it clear that it wasn't a temporary thing, it's happening to others as well.
