Backup Feature

Hey everyone just a question about backing up my site,

Firstly I plan adding some mods and perhaps upgrading my vBulletin forum, but not sure how the backup feature works. I found the "database backup" option under maintenance, and backed up my site to a .sql file. Is this the correct way for backing up my forum?

Also if i was wanting to return to this backup, how would i do so?
