Intergrating Chat
Hello
I have just downloaded and setup vBulletin it works fine Next thing I want to do is to intergrate Chat into my forums I see on this forum there is a Chat option from the main menu selection How can I achieve this ? Thanks Ernest |
Which chat software are you using?
|
I am not using any chat software at the moment. I have never setup chat before with a BB
What do you suggest, I have seen a couple of things on this forum about flash chat and a mod for flash chat so it can be intergrated with vBulletin I see this forum has a chat menu otion on the main menu. This is the sort of thing I would like. Any suggestions please? Thanks very much Ernest |
The chat on here is a java applet connecting to an IRC server.

Thanks
Can you tell me where can I download this Java chat, and does it come with installation instructions. When you say IRC server, do I need to set one of these up or are there several to use already out there on the internet ? I would be grateful if you could give me a few step by step instructions as although I am quite happy to download and install and to some extent configure software I have never setup chat before. Thanks very much Ernest |

And if you want to add the chat link to the menu, just go into the navbar template and add this code near the other links, replacing [link to chat room] with the link to the chat room on your site. That should create the exact link vBulletin.org has in their navbar. Code:
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="[link to chat room]">Chat </a></td> |
FlashChat is a much easier alternative, it costs $5, but is well worth it.

I had a quick look at the flash chat fite Tufat.com for some reason the forum page did not seem to work.
In any event can someone please answer some questions for me please: 1: Do you have to install the marcomdia Flash plugin toyour browser for Flash chat to work ? and what if new users to your site do not already have it. 2: Is it limited to 10 user per chat room. Some of the information I saw on tufat.com seemed to suggest it was limited to 10 users per room only. Please let me know Ernest_Harold_Brant@Yahoo.co.uk If you could email me I would be grateful Thanks |
1/ Yes, most people have it these days, even the PSP has it....For the one on vB.org to work, you must have Java installed (less people have this).
2/ No, that is only the limit for their demo. |
flash chat is great!.. imo
