Can vBulletin do this?
 

I have a small forum that I am getting ready to heavily promote, and hopefully take to the next level. I am currently using a heavily modified version of phpBB, including categories hierarchy which allows unlimited subforums of subforums of subforums etc. including the ability to use different themes for each subforum, and even a classified ads script. I am considering buying a vB license for several reasons, but I want to make sure that a couple of the things that I can currently do with my forum, can be accomplished equally well or better with vB. The forum is at www.mynextcollege.com

* Is there something similar (a plug-in) to what I have at "The Exchange" - namely, the ability to provide free classified ads space for users?

* I see that unlimited subforums are standard, but can I give them each a different look similar to the schools I have in the Michigan forum each showing up in their own school colors?

* Can I use different icons to represent each subforum such as I have done with the states and most of the subforum schools?

* I don't have alot of posts to save, but would it be possible to import from my modded version to vBulletin?

Thanks very much for any insight or suggestions. I really like what vBulletin has to offer and if I can do these types of things and more I will definitely be getting a license. I was a staunch supporter of phpBB, but delay after delay with releasing phpBB 3.0 got me to look closer at vBulletin. VBseo closed the lid on it, and if I can do these things with vb those would be the nails in the coffin.

Yes, you can set separate forum styles per forum or sub forum.

Yes, there is a modification here to do this:

You can use ImPex or something to import data from phpBB or other forums like SMF.

I'm sure there are modifications for most, if not all of these.

VBulletin and All of its plugins will go far beyond what any other board can do IMO

So nobody is sure if there is a mod/plug-in/hack to provide classified ads functionality to a site? I'm not sure it's a deal breaker, but it is definitely a feature I would like to incorporate.

there is actually 3 existing products that do it as plugins to vBulletin, like Photopost Classified, but they are not managed directly here on vb.org, so we can't really advertise about these products...

OK, well I see Photopost Classified and I found vBclassifieds - what is the third option and where can I see a side by side review of which offers what? Features, drawbacks etc.? I understand they are not managed here, but they aren't a competing product either, but rather a complimentary one. Why not point a prospective buyer in the right direction? I'm not asking for support, just information.

I don't think you'll find a side by side comparison, but it shouldn't be to hard to look at the individual classifieds add-ons and figure out which has the features you need.

I don't think it would be hard to find a classifieds add-on for vbulletin that fits what you're already doing with phpBB.

simply because due to some internal rules, there is no possibility to talk about commercial features here... the community is driven in a specific path, meaning no commercial... so we can't really provide products reviews aside of the personal comments from clients... not that much are posting them because they are going to the origin sites to comment...
