making a forum READ ONLU

hello guys, i have a strange problem, i need to make a certain forum READ only to some users who dont behave, now when i create a user group and make the changes required, and add a user , they can NOT see any of the forum, it keep getting access denied, all i did was i created a user group based on REGISTERED users, called the group Reg-Readonly, went the forum i would like them to have read only, changed the setting for that user group, but if it doesnt seem to work, if a user is NOT placed in Registered user group, they cant see anything, any idea?
Thanks

Why dont you just add the forum, and then go into into forum permissions and give access to specific groups, and by default everyone else is denied? I guess I dont really understand your question.

hi, thats the problem, lets say i got 2 user group REG and REG-READ ONLY, i want REG to have access, but REG-READ, only be able to READ and not reply, REG group is made by default, and there are 8000 users there, to create REG-READ, i went to usergroup managers, add a new group, created a group based on REG, changed the name to REG-ONLY, set the permission based on REG, and group was made, now i clicked on forum permissions, went to the forum that i want REG-READ to only have READ permission, click on REG-READ usergroup changed the settings, can view forum is YES, the rest are all NO for that forum ONLY, now, when i put a user in REG-READ user group, they can NOT see any forum, when i put them in REG and REG-READ, everything is open, i think its because REG takes over ... i am not sure what else i can do .. thanks for the help

Oh that has to do with the hiearchy of permissions, there is a way to set it to where the primary usergroup permissions do not permeate into the the secondary....Maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject.
